Microbotanical signatures of kreb: differentiating inflorescence phytoliths from northern African wild grasses

چکیده
Abstract Throughout northern Africa, evidence for an intensification of wild grass gathering is reflected in Holocene archaeological contexts. However, both the recovery macrobotanical assemblages and specificity their taxonomic classification are heavily influenced by food processing post-depositional conditions. In contrast, inflorescence phytoliths provide high levels preserve well most This study analyses situ morphology from modern specimens nine C 4 species commonly observed ethnographic studies recovered seed contexts across Africa. Morphological differences I nterdigitate within fertile florets six Paniceae enabled differentiation between them. The morphological parameters established this additional resource palaeoecological using phytoliths, which demonstrates effectiveness applying method to African species.

Morphological and molecular characterization of three new Fusarium species associated with inflorescence of wild grasses for Iran
In order to explore biodiversity of Fusarium species associated with the inflorescences of poaceous weeds, heads and inflorescences were collected from wild grasses in Ardabil province (Iran). Fusarium species were isolated using general and selective media. Pure cultures were established using a single spore technique. The isolates were identified based on morphological and molecular data. Seq...
متن کاملEarly inflorescence development in the grasses (Poaceae)
The shoot apical meristem of grasses produces the primary branches of the inflorescence, controlling inflorescence architecture and hence seed production. Whereas leaves are produced in a distichous pattern, with the primordia separated from each other by an angle of 180°, inflorescence branches are produced in a spiral in most species. The morphology and developmental genetics of the shift in ...
متن کاملGenetics and evolution of inflorescence and flower development in grasses.
Inflorescences and flowers in the grass species have characteristic structures that are distinct from those in eudicots. Owing to the availability of genetic tools and their genome sequences, rice and maize have become model plants for the grasses and for the monocots in general. Recent studies have provided much insight into the genetic control of inflorescence and flower development in grasse...
متن کاملMicrobotanical Evidence of Domestic Cereals in Africa 7000 Years Ago
The study of plant exploitation and early use of cereals in Africa has seen over the years a great input from charred and desiccated macrobotanical remains. This paper presents the results of one of the few examples in Africa of microbotanical analyses. Three grave contexts of phytolith-rich deposits and the dental calculus of 20 individuals were analysed from two Neolithic cemeteries in North ...
متن کاملPhytoliths of common grasses in the coastal environments of southeastern USA
Thirty-four grass species were collected for phytolith analysis from a variety of coastal environments in the southeastern USA (Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana), including salt marshes, freshwater/brackish marshes, pine/oak forests, maritime hardwood forests, and sand dunes. Phytoliths produced by these modern grasses include a large diversity of shapes and types. We propose a preliminary relat...
